Previously known by its other names (MSN Search, Windows Live Search or just Live Search), Microsoft rebranded and launched its search engine service as Bing. In June 2009, Bing was launched and marketed aggressively in the United States.
Marketed as a “Decision Engine”, Bing started picking up market share and at Dec 2009, has achieved a 8.47% market share, achieving close to the same level as Yahoo. In July 2009, Microsoft signed a 10-year advertising agreement with Yahoo, where Yahoo’s sponsored links will be served by Microsoft Adcenter. This allows Microsoft to achieve a total of close to 30% in search engine advertising market share. While Google continues to remain as the market leader today, it would be interesting to watch Microsoft and Bing’s performance in the years to come.
